Permission slips have gone home for 6th - 8th graders for the Valentine's Dance on Friday, 2/16/2018, from 4pm - 6pm.

Cost is $1 to attend and it will be held in the Gym
Kindergarten and Ms. O'Connor's Classes Wore Red in Support of Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Week

The entire Kindergarten classes and Ms. O'Connor's class wore red today to kick off Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness week.   

Zoe Reyes is a Kindergartner in Mrs. Priola's class affected with heart defects.   

Facts: Every 1 in 110 babies born are born with heart defects.   CHD's are the most common birth defects.  Approximately 2-3 million individuals are thought to be living in the United States with CHD's.  Surgery is often not a cure for CHD's and many people have lifelong issues

LSC COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE VACANCY 
There is a Local School Council Community Representative Vacancy at Skinner West Elementary.  Applications will be available in the school's main office at 1260 W. Adams and the deadline is Thursday, Feb. 22 at 4:00 p.m.  Interested candidates are invited to speak at the LSC meeting on Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m.  The community representative candidate will be voted in by the current members of the LSC.

CLASSROOM CONNECTIONS: MS. FISHER'S THIRD-GRADE CLASS
This week, Ms. Fisher's third-grad class participated in the craft of writing. Students celebrated by enjoying breakfast and reading the work of their peers!

2. Think about any connections you have to local shops, restaurants or other businesses, and email us about it at skinnerwestpto@gmail.com. In the coming months, we'll be looking for partners in fundraising activities to benefit our school.

KICS COMMUNITY SOCCER LEAGUE
Join KICS Community League this Spring for Skinner West. These teams give kids the opportunity to play with their school friends in a fun, non-competitive, recreational league. Team, age and gender breakdown is determined by number of players registered.  More information and sign-up can be found here.

LSC
LOCAL SCHOOL COUNCIL 2018 ELECTIONS
On Wednesday, April 18, 2018, Spring Parent-Teacher Conference Day, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., schools will conduct an election in which parents and community members will have the opportunity to run and vote for up to 5 candidates for 8 positions on the school's LSC (6 parent members and 2 community members) for the new two-year term of office beginning July 1, 2018.
