Amazon Smiles: Raise Money for Skinner - No Cost, No Effort

The Skinner PTO has registered Skinner West for the Amazon Smile program to raise funds for Skinner West. AmazonSmile program donates a percentage of each purchase to a designated charitable organization. Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to Skinner School Forum whenever you shop on AmazonSmile.

It is INCREDIBLY SIMPLE! From now on, instead of going to the standard Amazon website, go to (or log-on, if you have an Amazon account) www.smile.amazon.com.

The first time you visit www.smile.amazon.com, you'll be prompted to designate a charitable organization.  Please type in "Skinner School Forum."  Or go directly to http://smile.amazon.com/ch/36-3490221

After that, all Amazon shopping you do through the AmazonSmile portal will benefit Skinner West School. It costs you nothing and your Amazon shopping experience will be exactly the same.  Every time you shop at Amazon through he smile.amazon.com website, it will show that you are on Amazon Smile and the top of the page will read: "Supporting: Skinner School Forum."

Thank you to everyone who collected Box Tops over the summer! Prizes will be handed out once regular library classes start.

For more information on the Box Top program, please click HERE.

Ms. Ranftl got an email about a great way to rack up some Box Tops for Skinner, which will help add digital copies of your class novels to the library collection.  To participate, just "like" Box tops for Education on Facebook and select Skinner West from the drop down menu, and you earn fifty cents for the school.  It is time sensitive, so the sooner you participate the better.  If you have an email list of your parents/older students who may have facebook, please share it with them also.  Heads up- it only works on laptops/desk tops, not mobile devices

The eScrip program is a fundraising program that allows participating merchants to contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty cards, credit card, and debit/ATM card purchases to the school or organization of your choice.  Forms will be sent home this week need to be filled out and returned to the main office as soon as possible for Skinner to earn FREE $$$$$.

There is NO cost for this program.  You simply register your existing grocery loyalty cards, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, diners Club, debit/ATM cards and merchant cards such as OfficeMax and use them everytime you shop. These merchants have agreed to put aside a percentage of your expenditures and send it automatically to Skinner.

This form needs to be updated annually.

Technology Update - New Interactive Promethean Boards!

You may have noticed that there is new technology in several of our classrooms.  Eleven Promethean Interactive white boards have been installed in the classrooms.

An interactive whiteboard is a large display that connects to a computer and a projector. The projector projects the computer's desktop onto the board's surface, where users control the computer with a pen, finger, or other device. The board is typically mounted to a wall or floor stand. Various accessories, such as student response systems, enable interactivity.

The eleven lucky classrooms and teachers are: Ms. McSpadden, Ms. Rosenzweig, Mr. Lew, Mr. Chau, Mr. Cox, Mr. Carlson, Ms. Christiansen, Ms. Schildmeyer, Ms. Ellis, Ms. Rupp and Ms. Beaudry. Thanks to this years' CPS funds that were earmarked for technology and the Friends of Skinner West's Walk-a-Thon fundraiser from May 2012, classrooms are using technology to provide students another way of learning curriculum. Whiteboards provide the ability to present multimedia material that is verbal, visual, auditory, and interactive, which is essential to drawing today's students into the subject matter. A key benefit is boosting student motivation and participation.

Thanks to all the children and parents who helped raise funds from 2012's Skinner West Walk-a-thon. The results are truly rewarding for our Superstars!

Thank you Skinner West community for your commitment and support during this entire voting process. Your dedication has paid off and we are now recipients of a $25,000 grant that will allow us to purchase laptops for our Superstars, allowing them to expand their technological experience beyond our computer lab, bringing it right into their classrooms.

Finally, let's extend a big THANK YOU to our very own 1st grade teacher, Ms. Lohman. Ms. Lohman originally submitted the "Ready, Set, Tech" Cause to State Farm, amongst 3,000+ other Causes.
