Pickup and Dropoff Procedures for Main Building
Parents- Avoid a Ticket and Keep Our Students Safe!

Drop Off and Pick Up
  • Please do not block any driveways in the community area, double-park or block a crosswalk while dropping off or picking up your child.
  • In the morning the Monroe Street side is a "kiss & go" (drive up- drop off and drive away) area. Please do not park there - even temporarily. Other parents need to be able to use this area to drop off their children. Find parking in another area if you are going to exit your car for ANY period of time.
  • After school, the Monroe Street side is reserved for the bus lane. There is no parking or area to wait for your child.
  • Do not park on the Adams Street side directly in front of the school in the mornings. The Adams side is used for school bus drop-off only.
  • In the evening, the Adams street side school parking zone is a "pick up & drive away" area. Do not leave your car for extended periods of time. Please find legal parking in other areas if you are going to exit your car for ANY period of time.
Parking Lot
  • Our parking lot has limited spaces and is for SKINNER STAFF ONLY. Please do not park in the staff lot or block other cars.  It is permit parking only!  All non-permit cars will be towed.
  • Lastly, thank you to our parent and teacher volunteers that work hard to keep our children safe as they walk across the busy crosswalks on both the Monroe & Adams Street side. As a community we all play an active role in keeping those crosswalks safe.

- Update on PTO Supplies - PLEASE READ

  • Please check the website for the school supply lists - updates have been made!
  • Please remember: purchase your grade level supplies AND the Ancillary list supplies, Art, and Science supplies.
  • If you had purchased from the PTO Supplies Fundraiser last year, there has been a shipping delay:
Dear Parents,

PTO was recently notified that school supply kits ordered online from Schoolkidz will not be arriving until 9/6 - 9/9 due to production and shipping issues at Schoolkidz.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause as we head into the new school year. PTO has prepared essential supply kits to cover the first 1 - 2 weeks of school. Kits include pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, notebooks and folders per grade requirements. Some grades required glue sticks, markers, colored pencils and crayons and we have provided them in as many kits as possible. Students may be required to share resources until their kits from Schoolkidz arrive later in the week.

Schoolkidz will also be providing coupons to STAPLES for affected parents and shipping them to PTO directly.

Please direct any questions to Skinner West PTO at

With Regards,
Skinner West PTO

Ms. Clark welcome
We are thrilled to kickoff this school year!  It's hard to believe, but the first day of school is around the corner. We welcome our new Superstar families and welcome back our returning Superstar families. Are you ready for another fantastic year? Skinner West is THE premier school in Chicago, so you should be proud to be part of this.

Speaking of premier schools, be sure to pick up a copy of the September Chicago magazine.  Skinner West was named the #1 Chicago Elementary School, based on a combination of factors - PARCC attainment, NWEA/ MAP math and reading growth, parent and student surveys and attendance. Congratulations to everyone- Superstars, staff, parents, community members - to make this happen!

As leaders, educators and parents, the Skinner family collaborates to help prepare our students- emotionally, academically, artistically, professionally - for the next phase in their education. Each year, we hear positive updates from our graduates on how they have succeeded and continued their journey in their educational and professional careers, and we beam with pride each and every day to hear such positive news updates!

We encourage each of you to become active in the Skinner Community.  Attend a Local School Council, Parent Teacher Org PTO/Forum, Friends of Skinner West or Gallery 111 meeting. The LSC also sponsors the Facilities, School Improvement , Communications and Bilingual Advisory subcommittees. All of these organizations are seeking the best interest in our Superstars and the community around them. Become a room parent, volunteer in the library or one the the committees. Engage with other parents and join the exciting times ahead of us!

These weekly e-newsletters and alerts serve as the main communications for school-wide communications- news, policies, changes, key dates and activities and more!  As you meet your new teachers and room parents, you may receive more targeted communications to support your child's Skinner experience. Be sure to like our  Facebook page, and bookmark our website at for more information.

As always, if you have any questions for me, please contact me using the parent-only email address: .  We do our best to respond!
If you have any new parent questions, we have parent volunteers on hand to help by emailing (please label the subject with "new parent question")

Try to enjoy the rest of summer with your Superstars. And be on the lookout for more pertinent updates before the first day of school. We look forward to each Superstar returning on Tuesday, September 6th! We are ready for another fantastic school year with our wonderful Superstar families and staff !
