Avoid a Ticket and Keep Our Students Safe!

There was an unfortunate incident earlier this week in which two Whitney Young students were struck by a car while crossing the streets of Jackson and Laflin.  Though the injuries were minor (scratches and bruises), the outcome could have been much worse.

Please see here for parking, pick up and drop off rules.  When in doubt, please slow down and watch for kids!
Volunteers are needed for the 10/13 Walkathon

Are you interested in volunteering at the Walkathon?  Many parents are needed to make this event a success.  We are in need of volunteers to help with monitoring the route, distributing water, handing out fruit, First Aid and picking up the pizzas for our volunteers. If you can help with any of these duties, please sign up on our Google docs sheet or attend a brief informational meeting on October 5th at 6:00pm

New Parent Question?

We realize many new parents may have questions about their new school.  On Wednesday, 9/28 @ 6:30pm, (following the 5:30 open house), Skinner Parent Ambassadors will be available in the lobby to answer questions. Look for the Ambassadors in the lobby or if you need an answer sooner, please email with the heading "New Parent Question".  Please note the email box is monitored by parent volunteers.  We'll do our best to get back to you within 24 hours!

As always, please email, the email address for parents only.

  • Reach out to new classroom families & include them on email communications;
  • Solicit volunteers & donations for classroom activities as requested by the teacher;

  • Communicate pertinent school/classroom news & volunteer opportunities to parents.

Walkathon Update

Information regarding the Walkathon has been sent home with your child. We are excited that the Walkathon is only a few weeks away on October 13th! Please help us meet our goal of raising $50,000 by helping your child raise money for this cause. 100% of monies raised goes directly back into the classroom.  And because FOSW is a 503(c) organization, your contributions are tax deductible! Contributions are due back to your child's teacher by Monday, October 10th, 2016.

Friends of Skinner West would also like to send a big thank you to the Bragg Family. Jason and Trisha (parents of 2nd grader Claire and KDG Aaron) recently donated $2300 to FOSW. We are very appreciative of such a generous contribution. They are truly a Superstar family!
