Caught You Doing Something Good- Purple Slips

We are so proud of our Superstars everyday, but we get the opportunity to publicly recognize them on Monday in a special assembly.

We will be recognizing students who have shown the most growth in NWEA and Achieve3000. Congratulations to everyone for having a successful school season!

"Caught you Doing Something Good" is our annual recognition program for students who receive purple slips.
  • Purple slips are distributed by school administration to students for good deeds, proactive acts of kindness, and achieving success in different areas, designated by the school
  • Through generous donations, we provide small gift cards (by lottery) to students
  • It's an exciting event the students look forward to every year, where students cheer for each other and are rewarded for "catching them doing something good!"
Call for Donations:  At any time during the school year, we are always looking for donations of $5 gift cards from Gamestop, Subway, Starbucks, McDonald's Claire's, or Target. If you have any cards lying around, please consider dropping them off to Ms Maldonado's attention in the front office.  We thank you for motivating our students!
Classroom Connection - 4th Gradeconnx
The fourth grade classes celebrated all students who read their own poems at the Annual All Schools reading with the teaching artists of the Poetry Center of Chicago's Hands On Stanzas Program!
Our Poet In Residence selected one student from each fourth grade classroom residency, to represent the classes at the event.
This culminating activity was on display at the Poetry Center last Wednesday evening. We want to thank the chosen fourth grade  students for sharing a smidgen of work from their own repertoire of poems and delivering them beautifully.  You really represented  Skinner as superstars! Great job Rebecca B., Miles K., Taylor H.  and Alana O!
Call for Room Parents!parent

Skinner's First History Fair Representation in Washington, D.C. Emmett
Emmett S. (7th grader) advanced from Skinner's school history fair to city competition and then to state.  At state, Emmett was among the top two in his category and was chosen to represent Illinois at National History Day which was held this week at the University of Maryland.  Emmett's entry was a documentary about Richard Nickel, a Chicago photographer who advanced the architectural preservation movement.  There were teams from every state as well as five other countries in the competition.  Everyone that attended enjoyed the opening ceremonies where Ken Burns spoke and Emmett had a great time being part of Team Illinois.  Congratulations Emmett - the Skinner Community is so proud of your accomplishments!

1st Graders Dance Residencydancer
Thanks to Gallery 111, this year's first graders had the opportunity to experience a 10-week dance residency with May I Have this Dance.  The residency concluded with each class performing the waltz, tango, merengue, or Charleston for their parents.  In addition to learning the specific dance steps, the students learned proper dance etiquette and about the culture, language, and origin of their respective dances.
