Newsletter

The last Skinner Newsletter for the school year will be sent on Thursday, June 15th.  Please be on the lookout for email digests later this summer with important information for the 2017-2018 school year, including supply lists, and pertinent class information.   The communications team wishes you a restful summer break and we look forward to seeing you in September!

P.S.  Our newsletter team is staffed primarily by parent volunteers (nice crew if we do say so ourselves!).  We are always looking for volunteers to help draft, publish and find articles for the newsletter. If you're interested in donating your time or skills, please email us at skinnerwest@gmail.com.

Summer Office Hours

Because of the current CPS budget crisis, there is no plan to have staff at Skinner over the summer.  Teachers and staff will return in late August.

Skinner's New Website - Coming Soon!site

The communications team is very excited to announce that we'll soon be launching a new, redesigned website!  We're looking for volunteers to test our beta site over the summer to test the look & feel of the site and help us find errors.  It will help us tremendously with getting the site up and running before the start of the school year.  If you're interested in being a beta tester, please send us an emai!  We'll set you up with a link!

Volunteers Needed for Annual FOSW Skinner West Walk-A-Thon
FOSW

Friends of Skinner West has started to plan the Walk-a-thon for next year.  We are excited to raise funds to continue the one-to-one Chromebook program and other technology needs.

Last year we raised over $50,000 at this huge event!

We are currently seeking Committee Chairpersons for the Walkathon next school year.  The following volunteer positions are available.

1. Bounce house/DJ committee - responsible for ordering the bounce houses/DJ, etc.
2. Food committee - responsible for ordering food/water/pizza, soliciting donations for snacks.
3. Marketing committee - responsible for graphic design for advertising materials, creating banners, flyers, composing regular communications to parents via Facebook, newsletters, etc..
4. Volunteer committee - responsible for organizing volunteers, volunteer packet, and tables on the day of the Walkathon

If you are interested in chairing or volunteering for any of these committees, please email us at friendsofskinnerwest2011@gmail.com.

McCaskey

We can't fully tell you how happy and thankful we were that Mrs. McCaskey volunteered to work with our classical first graders again this year!  She also took on teaching the classical kindergarteners this year.

Mrs. McCaskey has been volunteering her time almost every week with the most amazing lessons. She is an amazing teacher that not only inspires the students but also the staff.

Mrs. McCaskey taught units about The Underground Railroad, William Shakespeare, and the Titanic. We have no doubt this year was special and memorable because of her.
