Classroom Connection: Mr. Johnson Johnson

Throughout the entire year we fitness test all students in grades 5-8, with the
goal of providing norm-referenced feedback to students with regards to their level of fitness across a variety of components. We perform one test each quarter.

The tests and their corresponding component of fitness are:
  1. Pacer test - aerobic capacity/cardiovascular endurance
  2. Push-up - muscular strength and muscular endurance
  3. Curl-up - muscular endurance
  4. Sit and Reach - flexibility

If you'd like any information on your child's scores, feel free to contact Mr. Johnson or click here for detailed information about Mr. Johnson's PE classes.

Classroom Connection: Mrs. Westendorf (Mrs. Westy) Westy

Students are engaged in a wide range of physical education classes at Skinner.  We utilize the SPARK Physical Education Curriculum as well as Fitness-Gram Fitness testing (3rd-8th grade), and The First Tee (golf curriculum).  All activities are inclusive, highly active, integrate academic and wellness concepts and are designed to develop motor, cognitive and social skills.
  • Kindergarten and 1st grade are currently working on rolling, tossing, catching and throwing skills.
  • 2nd graders are working with jump ropes. They have progressed to small groups of three and are completing jumps with the full turn of a rope!  Two students serve as the turner and one student jumps, as they take turns practicing this skill.
  • 3rd grade just finished a softball unit where they practiced the skills of over hand throwing, catching and batting.
  • 4th & 5th graders finished our 1st year of The First Tee Golf curriculum!  This unit exposed them to the game of golf while incorporating social skills, something we are very fond of teaching in our PE classes!
