Friends of Skinner West Book Drive

Do you have shelves of books that your kids don't read anymore?  Are you looking to find a place to donate them?  Look no further!  Friends of Skinner West is hosting a book drive to benefit our students and teachers. We have many new teachers as well as teachers that are teaching different grades from last year and we would like to help these teachers build a classroom library of books for all students to enjoy.
Please donate your gently used books to the book bin that will be in the lobby beginning December 8th.  We are looking for books for all grade levels from Kindergarten through 8th grade  that your children have enjoyed (please no baby or board books)  For a list of some suggested titles, please see our Facebook page. The book drive will run through December 23rd.

Winter Chess Session

Chess Scholars' Winter Session is now open for registration.  Classes are held everyday Tuesday, 3:45-4:45 p.m. and begin on December 20th.

Classroom Connections - Ms. Sendoun's Classroom

Right before the Thanksgiving holiday, 8th graders in Ms. Sendoun's science class had the opportunity to visit Argonne National Laboratory to participate in hands-on experiments about X-rays and Particle Accelerators. Students learned the history of Argonne, heard from some of the scientists that work there, and experienced a simulation of how scientists harness the X-rays produced in the particle accelerator to image nano-materials.  According to student Len W., "I learned that the particle accelerator can accelerate particles to where they are 2 mph less than the speed of light."
